The Catalonian tourism sector represents more than 11% of the GDP of Catalonia. In 2007, the hotel sector represented 1.4% of the total economy of Catalonia and 2% of the entire tertiary occupation.
Undoubtedly, tourism is one of the main sectors of the Catalonian economy and this is, mainly, thanks to all the entrepreneurs who work day-by-day to contribute to its growth, in spite of the current obstacles.
From PIMEC we want the public administration to recognise the importance of this sector and act accordingly, by reducing the obstacles and contributing to improve the economic and financial profitability of the enterprises within this sector.
PIMEC is considered to be the most representative social agent in Catalonia, and has been recognised as one of the main interlocutors with the Government. Hence we are a strong voice for all the self-employed workers and small and medium-sized enterprises of Catalonia.
With the objective of being heard, we have established the PIMEC Turismo division, which brings together the professionals and professional associations of the hotel and restaurant sector of Catalonia. Together, we will work towards our enterprises being more competitive and to improve the quality of tourism in Catalonia.
